Tamil Nadu to Establish ₹400 Crore Footwear Park in Panapakkam

In a major move to boost the state’s footwear manufacturing sector, the Tamil Nadu government has announced plans to establish a ₹400 crore footwear park in Panapakkam, located in Ranipet District. This new initiative aims to create a hub for footwear production, attracting both domestic and international brands, while enhancing the state’s position as a leader in the footwear industry.

The footwear park will provide state-of-the-art facilities for the production of leather and non-leather footwear, with dedicated zones for manufacturing, R&D, and testing. The project is expected to create thousands of jobs and support the growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the region. It will also offer financial incentives, such as subsidies and tax breaks, to attract investment from both local and global footwear brands.

Tamil Nadu, which is already home to a significant portion of India’s leather and footwear manufacturing, is keen to leverage this new park to drive further industrial growth, foster innovation, and boost exports. The park will focus on producing high-quality footwear for both domestic consumption and global markets, particularly in Europe, North America, and the Middle East.

This move is part of the state’s broader efforts to develop mega parks for the leather and footwear sectors, following the success of previous initiatives aimed at expanding industrial infrastructure. The establishment of the Panapakkam Footwear Park is expected to strengthen Tamil Nadu’s status as a manufacturing hub for footwear and leather goods, supporting India’s aspirations to lead the global leather industry by 2030.
