Tamil Nadu to Set Up Footwear Park at an Outlay of Rs 400 Crore

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced plans to establish a Mega Footwear Park in Panapakkam, Ranipet district, with an investment of ₹400 crore. This initiative is part of the state’s larger strategy to strengthen its position in the leather and footwear industries. Key highlights of this project include:

  • Location and Size: The park will span 250 acres in Ranipet district.
  • Employment Opportunities: The project is expected to create around 20,000 jobs, significantly boosting regional employment, especially for women.
  • Investment Context: This development aligns with the Tamil Nadu government’s Footwear and Leather Products Policy, 2022, which aims to promote the state as a hub for the leather industry.
  • Economic Goals: The initiative supports Tamil Nadu’s ambition to become a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

Additionally, the Tamil Nadu government plans to establish industrial parks for the leather and footwear sectors through public-private partnerships, targeting a 50-acre setup for these industries. This marks a significant step in attracting investments to backward districts and fostering balanced industrial growth across the state.

This announcement coincided with the inauguration of a footwear manufacturing facility by JR One Footwear Pvt Ltd in Perambalur district. The facility, expected to generate 20,000 jobs with an investment of ₹400 crore, reflects the government’s commitment to boosting industrial development and creating employment opportunities across Tamil Nadu.
