The Tamil Nadu government has announced plans to establish a footwear manufacturing park in Panapakkam, Ranipet district, with an investment of ₹400 crore. This initiative is expected to generate approximately 20,000 jobs, significantly boosting employment opportunities in the region.
This development aligns with Tamil Nadu’s broader strategy to strengthen its position in the leather and footwear sectors. Following the release of the state’s Footwear and Leather Products Policy in 2022, notable advancements have occurred in these industries. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed confidence that such growth would contribute to achieving the state’s goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
In addition to the Ranipet project, the government plans to establish industrial parks dedicated to the leather and footwear industries on 50-acre sites through public-private partnerships. These efforts aim to attract further investments and create more employment opportunities within the state.
The Ranipet footwear park was announced during the virtual inauguration of a new footwear manufacturing facility by JR One Footwear Pvt Ltd in Eraiyur, Perambalur district. This facility, set up with an investment of ₹400 crore, is expected to create 20,000 jobs, underscoring the government’s commitment to attracting investments in backward districts and promoting industrial growth across Tamil Nadu.
